Oxygen-Free High-Strength Electrical Copper Alloy

High conductivity and high strength in a single copper alloy

  • Copper alloy
  • Electrical conductivity
  • Cold working
  • Aging
Polished copper block, coil and rods with a grain-structure micrograph — oxygen-free high-strength electrical copper alloy at 91-93% IACS.
Conductivity
91–93% IACS
Cold reduction
60–90%

Overview

Addition of a suitable alloying element in copper to ensure complete solid solubility, followed by rapid quenching. The melt is treated with a suitable mix of de-oxidisers to prevent loss of alloying elements. A further 60–90% cold reduction imparts strength, followed by an aging treatment that improves electrical conductivity to about 91–93% IACS.
